Badger State Ethanol Honored as State Export Leader

Badger State Ethanol, a founding member of the Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance, was honored by Governor Doyle on Tuesday at the 43rd annual Wisconsin International Trade Conference in Milwaukee.  

Badger State, which operates a 50 million gallon per year ethanol plant in Monroe, received the Governor's Export Achievement award for its contribution to the state's international trade.  Currently, Badger State ships 5,000 tons of dried distillers grains (DDGs) overseas every month.

Sanimax Ships State’s First Large-Scale Load of Biodiesel

Sanimax Energy, a founding member of the Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance (WBIA), shipped off its first load of biodiesel yesterday to Progressive Farmers Cooperative in Northeast Wisconsin. 

Sanimax currently operates the state's first large-scale biodiesel plant in DeForest, which came online in April.  The plant has a capacity of 20 million gallons per year.

The shipment represents the first large-scale load of biodiesel to be distributed in Wisconsin.

BEST Energies, also a founding member of the WBIA, is currently constructing an 8 million gallon per year biodiesel facility in Cashton.

Ace Ethanol Nominated for Chippewa County Business Award

Ace Ethanol, one of the founding members of the Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance, Was recently nominated for a Chippewa County Business Award for its plant in Stanley, WI.

Ace was nominated because of the economic impact its plant has had on the local economy.

Ace is the winner in the Caddott, Boyd, and Stanley region, one of four quadrants in the county.  An overall winner from the four nominees will be selected at the Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation's annual meeting on May 17.

Associated Press: No damage from ethanol boom

The US Department of Agriculture's chief economist said last week that a jump in corn-based ethanol production next year will not raise food prices enough to harm consumers, according to a recent story by the Associated Press.

He notes that a 7% increase in food prices this year have been largely due to inclement weather and low levels of Australian wheat crops, amongst other factors, rather than increased ethanol production.

DOE Grants Available for Cellulosic Ethanol Projects

The US Department of Energy today announced the availability of up to $200 million in grants over the next five years (2007-2011) to support the development of small-scale cellulosic biorefineries.

Up to $15 million is expected to be available for 2007, with the remaining $185 million available for the following four years.  The DOE is expected to select 5-10 awards from this series of grants.

Applications are due by August 14 of this year.
