Virgin Atlantic successfully completed the world's first commercial, biofuel-driven test flight in history last Sunday.
A Boeing 747, modified to run on biofuels, landed at Amsterdan's Schiphol Airport on Sunday morning after taking off from Heathrow Airport in London earlier that day.
The fuel consisted of a combination of coconut and babassu oil, demonstrating the future possibility of having commercial aircraft run on clean-burning, renewable fuels.
While final analysis on the CO2 emissions during the flight has yet to be done, the carbon footprint left by the flight appears to be significantly reduced over the emissions of a flight using traditional fuel.
