“Freedom” rolls out big in DC

“Freedom,” the compelling documentary investigating the repercussions of America’s addiction to foreign oil and a proposed solution for our energy independence will have its red carpet premiere in DC tonight with a slew of special guests.

Preceding the film’s premiere a press conference will take place at 2pm ET. The debate and Q&A hosted by Dennis McGinn, retired Vice Admiral and President of the American Council on Renewable Fuels, will include filmmakers Josh and Rebecca Tickell as well as General Wesley Clark, who ranked at a four-star general and director of strategic plans and policy for the Joint Chief of Staffs.

“Freedom” covers a wide range on our country’s oil issues ranging from last year’s Deepwater Horizon explosion, Keystone XL pipeline, and the economic impact of foreign oil on American citizens. The film also highlights a path to long-term sustainable path to domestic fuel.

Call for unity in the ethanol industry

At the Renewable Fuels Association’s National Ethanol Conference this week, ethanol leaders from around the country meet to discuss the future of the industry.

Bob Dinneen, RFA CEO, will give the State of the Industry Address. Dinneen’s column this month, ‘Speaking with One Voice,’ calls for unity and focus.

“It is critically important that, as Congress and the country debate and decide energy policy, the ethanol industry will be speaking with one voice. That’s why the recent announcement that companies developing the next generation of advanced ethanol technologies are working together with the ethanol industry’s trade organization, the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA), through the formation of the Advanced Ethanol Council (AEC) is so significant.”

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) will be holding their seventh annual Green Vehicles Workshop & Fair, “Driving Toward 2020″ this Friday, April 23 at their Downtown Campus. In this popular, interactive workshop, expert presenters discuss and display the latest designs of energy-efficient and diminished-emission vehicles for the present and near future.

MATC will also be holding a free, first-ever green vehicles fair on Saturday, April 23 at their Oak Creek Campus. The event will feature brief informational sessions and a tire pressure check conducted by Milwaukee Hybrid Group members called Pump Your Ride To $avings.

Growth Energy launched their $2.5 million television ad campaign today, promoting ethanol’s many benefits as an alternative to fossil fuels. The spots will air on four cable networks over the next six months: Fox, MSNBC, CNN and HLN. They began airing today at 6 a.m on all four networks. Each spot focuses on a different benefit of ethanol and promotes it as independent, clean, renewable, peaceful, sensible and economic.

WBIA Member Miron Construction Named Contractor for $250 Million Green Diesel Plant

WBIA member Miron Construction and international engineering and project management company AMEC were recently selected to team up as EPC contractor for Flambeau River Biofuel’s $250 biorefinery. The plant, which will be located at an existing pulp and paper mill in Park Falls, Wisconsin, will be the largest second generation “green diesel” plant in the U.S.

The press release from Miron Construction and Flambeau River Biofuels gives more details about the project:

“The Flambeau River bio-refinery will create permanent, high-skilled operating jobs in the region, long-term logging jobs, and short-term engineering and construction jobs, contributing to the economic stimulus of Park Falls, Wisconsin,” said Butch Johnson, majority owner of Flambeau River Papers and Flambeau River Biofuels.

“The AMEC-Miron team was selected for its experience and innovation in developing green energy and biofuel facilities,” said Johnson. “When completed, Flambeau will have the first integrated pulp and paper mill in North America to run on fossil-free energy.”

Tim Gelbar, President, AMEC’s Power and Process Americas business said: “The Flambeau program has been a long-term strategic focus of AMEC’s and it will play a key role in our continued development of new bioprocesses and the expansion of clean renewable energy.”

“We have been working with Flambeau for two years developing this project” said David G. Voss, Jr., President, Miron Construction. “The Flambeau BioFuels project is key to developing “green fuel” renewable energy alternatives and will have a significant positive economic impact in Wisconsin.”
