Bio Fuels - Resources and Education

Bio fuel uses biomass to produce transportation fuels.  Currently, ethanol is the major bio fuel produced in Wisconsin. Bio diesel is in early stages of growth and eventually even more advanced fuels may become available from today’s hydrogen research.

Near the end of 2006, Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle announced the following grants to advance the bio fuel industry in Wisconsin:

  • $60,000 to O’Brien Farms to develop and commercialize a portable bio diesel production unit.
  • $110,000 to Cashton Area Development to develop and construct an operational, continual process pyrolysis unit of commercial scale in Wisconsin.
  • $97,500 to Quality Roasting to expand the production of soybean oil in the state as a primary raw material input for bio diesel production.
  • $115,000 to Lucigen Corp. to develop a group of novel, thermostable enzymes to enhance bio fuel production in dry-mill corn ethanol plants.
