Bio Power Group supports digester project
Dane County Digester will convert animal waste into clean fuel and energy
Contact: Joshua Morby - 414.344.1733Waunakee, Wis. – Members of the Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance’s Bio Power Group expressed support for the efforts of Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk as she joined Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle to break ground on the Dane County Digester project in Waunakee.
Located at Ripp’s Dairy Valley, the Dane County Digester will convert animal waste into clean fuel and energy that will provide nearly $2 million worth of electricity for 2,500 homes per year. The digester is the first of its kind in the state and the electricity produced will play an important role in helping reduce the state’s dependence on fossil fuels.
“Converting waste streams such as crop residuals and manure to fuel streams such as bio gas and electricity is essential as we work to achieve energy independence and seek cleaner burning sources of energy,” said Joshua Morby, spokesperson for the WBIA’s Bio Power Coalition.
“As we near the election, we’re working hard to educate candidates and policy makers about the importance of the bio industry and the economic impact ethanol, biodiesel and bio power generation has on Wisconsin. We’re excited to be able to use today’s announcement as a springboard for those efforts.”
The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance is a diverse group of businesses, environmental groups, and statewide and local organizations that have come together to build both public and legislative awareness of the Bio Industry in Wisconsin.
