E85 Continues to Provide Value as Gas Prices Rise

MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance on Friday reminded consumers that as regular gas prices climb over to $3.50 a gallon in some parts of the state, E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline) continues to present a value at the pump and help the environment in Wisconsin.

Recent pricing data suggested that on average E85 is about 16% cheaper than regular gasoline across the state.  E85 has the additional value of being better for the environment, reducing two of the main chemicals that create ozone by 20% when compared to gasoline.

“E85 is a homegrown, renewable fuel that not only improves our air quality, but creates jobs right here in Wisconsin,” WBIA Executive Director Josh Morby said.  “As a state, we need to do more to encourage the use of E85 in Wisconsin to help grow our economy, environment and provide price stability at the pump.”

E85 is a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.  There are 140,000 flex fuel vehicles on Wisconsin roadways capable of using the fuel, and the technology now exists for all new cars to be made to run on E85.

In Wisconsin, there are more than 150 locations where consumers can purchase gasoline blended with up to 85 percent ethanol.  The WBIA is working with national organizations and the State of Wisconsin to increase the number of flex fuel pumps available to consumers.

The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance is a diverse group of businesses, environmental groups and statewide and local organizations that have come together to build both public and legislative awareness of the Bio Industry in Wisconsin.
