Wisconsin Biofuel Producers Contribute to Energy Independence

MILWAUKEE – Wisconsin’s ethanol producers contribute to our nation’s energy independence, increasing the security of our country and reducing our need to rely on foreign producers for fuel.

With Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s discussion of the Homeland Security Report today, the need to support Wisconsin’s biofuel industry is even clearer. As a nation, we must take the necessary steps to protect and improve the resiliency of our energy sector, including biofuels.

“Using ethanol that is produced in Wisconsin strengthens the economic security of our country, both by supporting locally sources of energy but also decreasing our reliance on outside interests for our fuel sources,” says Joshua Morby, executive director of the Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance (WBIA). “Wisconsin is fortunate in that our nine biofuel producers are at the leading edge of innovation and production, providing a renewable, domestic source of energy for Wisconsin and the nation.”

Wisconsin’s ethanol producers continue to invest in technology that makes ethanol production an efficient, economical and reliable alternative to petroleum-based fuels.

“Wisconsin’s ethanol producers use corn that is produced by Wisconsin farmers,” says Morby. “Because the production chain is entirely domestic – and centered in Wisconsin – our ethanol industry is very secure and reliable. It is also not affected by global political or economic turbulence.”

The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance is a diverse group of businesses, environmental groups and statewide and local organizations that have come together to build both public and legislative awareness of the Bio Industry in Wisconsin.
