Even though gas prices across the country are falling, a memorandum from the United States Department of Energy shows that gas prices would not be as low if it were not for biofuels, like ethanol. Here are a few statistics:
- Gasoline prices would be an additional 20 to 35 cents per gallon higher without ethanol.
- Because of ethanol, a typical household in the United States finds a savings of $150 to $300 per year.
- For the US overall, because ethanol keeps gas prices lower, ethanol helps save $28 billion to $49 billion per year.
